Week 4 Online Journal

Well, we are 1/4 of the way through the semester!!! This has been a stressful week for me. I don't know why. It just seems that I got
nothing accomplished in this class or in any of my other classes. I had so much work to do, and it seemed never-ending. This week I set out to finish my assignments from week for, and i did not come close to doing that. I still haven't finished my webliography from week 3. I am having troubles with the URLs. The reason i set out to finish week
4 assignments was so that i would not be overloaded on Monday when i receive the new assignments. I will still try to finish the assignments, but i will have to do lots of work over the weekend to do so.
The content addressed this week included the VARK Inventory, which was very interesting. I got to find out what kind of learner I am. I also worked on my webliography (even though I did not get very far on it). I did my essential and foundation questions for my research project. I have decided to research late-talkers vs. disorders. I then read about
developing search strategies for doing my research project. I also read about evaluating resources. I haven't actually evaluated any yet.
The processes i utilized in completing my work this week involved Julie and I going over to the computer labs at Smith. Like i have said before, we go in between classes so that we can motivate ourselves. This week i just did not feel very motivated for some reason. I guess
i just got lazy.
Doing the work that i have done this week, i have realized that i need to give myself a break every once and a while. I stress out TOO much!!! I just don't like knowing that i still have more work that has to be done. I would rather get it finished and not have to worry about it for a couple of days. I know that i have plenty of time to finish it, but it is always on my mind.
As for questions, i don't have any at the moment. I probably will after i start finishing the assignments, but none come to mind right now. I hope to finish more work in the next 3 days. Hopefully i will. If i don't, i will try not to freak out about it :)

Week 3 Online Journal

My goals for this week were to finish week three assignments and to get myself to feel more comfortable working with computers. I am still working on finishing week three assignments. I want to finish all of my assignments so that I will have a free weekend and so that I will have everything finished before week four assignments are assigned. As for feeling more comfortable with computers, that is just something that will happen with time. I figure that I will feel more comfortable with computers as I continue working on my assignments in this class. That is one of the main points of this class.
The content addressed this week was not so hard (at least the assignments that i have finished so far). I thought that it was pretty easy to subscribe to a professional mailing list. I subscribed to one about late-talkers. Using the search utilities to search information on my name was very interesting. I also used search utilities to search for articles related to developmental language disorders. I bookmarked the ASHA page, the Internet Public Library, the Merriam-Webster Online page, and the ERIC Digests. I also had to discuss my learning needs and highlights. I still have to do the VARK Inventory, my webliography, and discuss my foundation questions.
As far as how I got my work finished, I came to the library in between classes and i worked on my assignments. I also took advantage of the time i had on Wednesday since we did not have class. I went to the library and worked on my assignments. This helped alot because I had plenty of time to do my work. I could very easily work from my house, but I know that I would be distracted and not want to do my work. Therefore, i find it a lot more convenient for me to go to the library to finish my work.
As a result of the content i explored and the processes i engaged in this week, I have changed my mind on my research. Last week i wanted to research the developmental milestones in children. While researching that topic this week, i came upon late-talkers vs. disorders. This really captured my interest. Therefore, I decided to do my research on that instead.
As far as questions and concerns about this week, the main thing that i am concerned about is the webliography. I know that it is just a rough-rough draft, but i have never done anything like that before. i am not sure how i am supposed to do it. I looked at the past webliographies, and they seemed to really intimidate me because i am not sure that i can do that. i know that i will eventually learn how, but i do not know what to do for it this week. i guess that i will figure it out and have it finished by sunday. If not, then i will be asking for help :-)

Week 2 Online Journal

The second week of school is over! For this week, I set out once again to finish this week’s support assignments. I failed to accomplish my goal last week, but I think I will be successful this week. I just have three assignments left to do, and they should not take long. I want to get everything finished before Monday because that is when our next assignments are posted. I do not like to be overloaded.
The content that was addressed this week was a little more complex than the material that was covered last week, but it was not difficult to accomplish. The reading assignments for the week were very computer educational. I learned about MOO. MOO is the means of communication that we will use for our classroom discussions. The e-mail information was also very educational. I learned about expressions and acronyms that I can use when e-mailing others. The current discussions helped me to express how I came to desire to be a speech pathologist. I discussed how my family values education, as well as how I learn and desire to learn. Lastly, I got to submit a topic area that interests me in my field. I chose developmental language milestones.
The processes I used to complete this week’s work involved much discipline from me and my classmate, Julie. Everyday between classes, we go to the library and work on the assignments for this week. It really helps how we work together. We motivate each other to do the work. We decide what assignment we are going to do and on what day. That is tremendously beneficial.
I arrived in many new places in my thinking this week as a result of the many things that I read on the internet. I no longer feel completely comfortable using the internet as a means of paying my credit card bill. I also know that my e-mail is not exactly private. On a positive note, I learned many ways to explore the internet. I also acquired knowledge of acronyms and expression symbols to use when e-mailing others.
As for questions about this week, I really do not have any (of course, I still have the subscription/unsubscription to do). I have enjoyed learning the new things that I have learned this week, and I look forward to becoming more knowledgeable about computers.
